The Ashanti Regional Police Commander of the Motor Traffic Transport Department (MTTD), Supt. Emmanuel Adu Boahen has called on drivers, motorists and pedestrians to adhere to the road safety directives to safeguard lives and property.
He indicated that the region will be counted among one of the busy roads during these general elections, Christmas and the New Year celebrations across the length and breadth of the country.
According to him, the region has recorded a total of 1,746 accident cases from January to July 2020 as compared to 1,911 representing a difference of 8.6% in 2019 last year.
He added that the region also recorded 234 fatal cases, involving 1,341 commercial vehicles, 932 private cars and 570 motor/ tricycles with 126 persons killed in the process.
He disclosed to OBR Radio that out of 126 persons killed as at July 2020, two hundred and thirty-three (233) are males (20 below 18 years and 213 people) whiles fifty two (52) are females (below 18 years 16 and above 18 years 36 people.
The Ashanti Regional Police Commander of the MTTD, Supt. Emmanuel Adu Boahen made this known in an exclusive interview with OBR Radio in Kumasi following the recent accident cases in the region.
He later advised drivers, motorists and pedestrians to be mindful when using the road particularly during this elections and Christmas period in the region.
