August 19, 2020Reports gathered by OBR Radio in the Garden City of Kumasi has indicated that a faulty excavator parked along the Bosomtwe lake road on the Odem bridge in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti region on 18th August 2020 has caused a serious accident on the Atonsu-Aputuogya road.

According to some road users the News team spoke to on Tuesday morning at about 10:30am to 11:00am, indicated that the excavator which has been used by the contractor constructing the road in the district for some time now has abandoned the excavator causing series of accidents on the road.

Available statistics to OBR Radio and the Ghana Police Service (GPS) in the district indicate that close to 65 road accidents have so far been recorded on the road with high number of casualties in the second to third quarter in 2020 this year alone following the construction of the road from Esereso-Kuntanase the district capital.

The OBR News team visited the accident scene, where a black salon car with registration number GW 6366-11 that was using the road from (Esereso-Aputuogya) veered off the road and landed in a nearby stream along the edge of the road on the Odem bridge where the excavator was parked after negotiating a curve.

However, driver of the salon car who sustained mini injuries after the accident was rushed to the nearby Aputuogya Health Centre for medical attention after parts of the glass of car was smashed resulting to cuts of the body of the driver (name withheld).
Some road users the News team spoke to appealed to government and the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) to initiate road safety measures to help reduce road accidents on the road which is been constructed.
