July 17, 2020A Certified Instructor at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) of the Ashanti Region, Mr. Felix Nyamekye has indicated that about 50% of drivers are not familiar with tyres information particularly in the region leading to rampant accidents.

According to him, available information indicates that 75%-80% drivers ranging from 20 out of 100 and 60 out of 100 both private and public respectively are not well informed about the use of tyres in the country.
He added that the Road Traffic Regulation 2012 Legislative Instrument (LI) 2180 Sub regulation 62 mandates drivers not to use over aged tyres for more than four (4) years which sometimes causes accidents.

He advised drivers to look out for information on the walls of the tyres when purchasing it for commercial or private use.
He advised both private and commercial drivers to keep the two seconds distance gap on queuing or in traffic and four seconds gap on highways to prevent any unforeseen occurrences which can lead to lose of lives.

The DVLA Certified Instructor who also doubles as a Chief Instructor at the Oli Best Road safety (OBR) Organization made this known in an exclusive interview with OBR Media in Kumasi.
